The memorial to the Hiiumaa soldiers who died in World War II is dedicated to all soldiers from Hiiumaa who died in World War II, regardless of which side they fought on.
The memorial depicts a young man who returned from the war, sitting and looking towards his home village. To his left are memorial plaques with the names of his comrades who remained on the battlefields. These men never returned to their homes – to their wives, mothers and daughters and sons. To his right, however, is the future, the land that he is about to re-create. He sits as if on the river of life, the Toonela River, just a moment before he starts walking towards his home. He unites the past and the future. A boy from Hiiumaa.
