Translating the Estonian word “past” into English, we get the word “past”, which for us sounds similar to the word “paast” with a completely different meaning. But isn’t it strange that these two words can also be very related in a semiotic sense – paast is past, the past is lenten. The past, like lent, contains a concentration of what has already been consumed and experienced, a situation where a purification process takes place and only the essential is preserved. However, the spatial finality of the past is at one point swallowed up by the flames of new lives.
